Agro/Petroleum Sales Rep (Central Alberta, Retail)

The Co-operative Retailing System (CRS) is a unique, multi-billion dollar organization based on the fundamental principles of co-operation. It is comprised of a network of approximately 200 autonomous retail co-operatives across Western Canada along with their branch operations, and Federated Co-operatives Limited (FCL). FCL is the wholesaling/manufacturing arm of the CRS, which provides the retail co-ops with a range of products and services. Central Alberta Co-op invites applications for the position of Agro/Petroleum Sales Rep.

Central Alberta Co-op is a dynamic Co-operative with budgeted sales in excess of $274 million dollars with Food, General Merchandise, Crop Supplies, Liquor and Petroleum as primary products.  Central Alberta Co-op is based in Red Deer with locations in the communities of Lacombe, Innisfail, Spruce View, Stettler, Elnora, Blackfalds, Castor, Eckville and Crossfield providing employment for approximately 750 (and growing!) employees in the communities we serve.

Reporting to the Agro/Petroleum Manager, the Agro/Petroleum Sales Rep is responsible for the following:

  • Proactively seeking to become involved in the business decision-making process of targeted customers
  • Contacting producers on farm-based customer strategies in order to increase awareness of customer’s business needs
  • Scanning & interpreting the database, sharing relevant information (trends, market needs, business opportunities) with team members, & recommending programs & services to meet & exceed customer needs
  • Developing & maintaining effecting business relationships with current & potential customers
  • Arranging & executing customer plot tours with chemical companies
  • Analyzing current & future agricultural trends & service needs to develop & implement strategies to create opportunities
  • Assisting customers to make farm production & marketing decisions
  • Keeping informed with competitor activities within the market area
  • Other duties as assigned by Manager


The ideal candidate should have:

  • Knowledge of crop inputs (chemical, fertilizer, seed, fuel)
  • Knowledge of grain handling equipment (grain bins, augers, etc.)
  • Ability to work independently & as part of a team
  • Strong self-motivation
  • Strong communication skills & ability to close a sale
  • Strong problem-solving skills
  • Agricultural experience an asset
  • Sales experience an asset
  • CCA designation an asset
