Location: Masset, BC

The Haida Gwaii Co-operative Association invites applications for the position of Lumber Manager located in Masset, BC.

Haida Gwaii Co-op is part of the Co-operative Retailing System (CRS), a unique, multi-billion dollar organization based on the fundamental principles of co-operation. It is comprised of a network of approximately 170 autonomous retail co-operatives across Western Canada along with their branch operations, and Federated Co-operatives Limited (FCL). FCL is the wholesaling/manufacturing arm of the CRS, which provides the retail co-ops with a range of products and services.

The Lumber Manager will demonstrate and lead the Lumber Department with day to day behaviors and actions that align with Haida Gwaii Co-ops brand and values. The position requires strong technical knowledge and experience in construction/ lumber operations, marketing, high standards in merchandising and customer service. The lumber manager will have the ability to organize and lead a team towards common goals. 

Reporting to the General Manager, responsibilities for this position include the following:

1. Organize, direct and co-ordinate the operations of the lumber department while achieving budgeted goals.
2. Requires knowledge of commodity sales, gross margin, efficient buying and inventory management
3. Developing and executing pricing strategies to achieve optimum sales and margins
4. Provide leadership through coaching, development, and feedback to team members to ensure that they provide exceptional customer service and technical advice to our guests.
5. Lead a safety culture ensuring employees understand and comply with company OH&S policies, procedures and regulations.

Qualifications
• Must demonstrate effective team leadership skills with strong delegation skills with a focus on customer service
• Must have retail lumber, building materials and hardware knowledge
• Comfortable working with computer systems with a willingness to learn new processes and adopt new technologies as they arise.
• Strong communication, organizational and interpersonal skills.
• Project estimating experience
