The Slocan Valley Co-operative invites applications for the position of Petroleum Manager to join our team at our Slocan Park retail’s, Castlegar Petroleum Department located in Castlegar, British Columbia.

Slocan Valley Co-op is part of the Co-operative Retailing System (CRS), a unique, multi-billion dollar organization based on the fundamental principles of co-operation. It is comprised of a network of approximately 170 autonomous retail co-operatives across Western Canada along with their branch operations, and Federated Co-operatives Limited (FCL). FCL is the wholesaling/manufacturing arm of the CRS, which provides the retail co-ops with a range of products and services.


The Slocan Valley Co-op has provided services to its members since 1957, and our Petroleum Department operates throughout the beautiful West Kootenay Region of British Columbia through the Castlegar bulk petroleum and cardlock facility that was constructed in 2015. Our high-quality fuel and lubricant products and services are provided to a spectrum of customers from residential home heating to large-scale industry and regional highways contractors. We also provide these same products to the local Tempo reseller fueling stations in five locations of the Kootenays. Each year has seen growth in sales volume, and we are pursuing additional opportunities to maintain this trend.

The Petroleum Manager will provide leadership to the Castlegar Bulk Petroleum Team Members, coordinating day-to-day activities that maintain our healthy reputation for service, quality, and timeliness of delivery. The position plays a key role in the contribution to the Co-op through developing sales and achieving budgeted goals while maintaining adherence to image standards, safe working conditions, and asset protection for uninterrupted service to our members.

Reporting to the General Manager, responsibilities for this position include the following:

1. Maintain service standards by positively leading, coaching and motivating the Petroleum Team Members
2. Maintain member-client and Tempo dealer satisfaction through regular, direct contact
3. Develop sales volume in petroleum, oil & lubricant deliveries, and cardlock
4. Provide operational direction and support the implementation of programs and policies related to loss prevention, health & safety, human resources, asset protection, budget development and business planning.
5. Support the retail’s core values by creating personal goals which align with and strengthen the Co-operative’s goals and business objectives

Qualifications
• Class 1 with air brake endorsement, clean driver’s abstract and passing a criminal record check
• 5 – 8 years of experience in a retail environment with the successful candidate having extensive petroleum experience
• Experience in developing relationships with external and internal customers on complex issues and transactions
• Experience and proven leadership in coaching and providing constructive feedback to other team members
• Ability to control operational costs, maximize operational efficiency, and improve sales and growth margin with effective marketing skills
