The Co-operative Retailing System (CRS) is a unique, multi-billion dollar organization based on the fundamental principles of co-operation. It is comprised of a network of approximately 181 autonomous retail co-operatives across Western Canada along with their branch operations, and Federated Co-operatives Limited (FCL). FCL is the wholesaling/manufacturing arm of the CRS, which provides the retail co-ops with a range of products and services. Cornerstone Co-op in Vermilion, Alberta invites applications for the position of Gas Bar/C-Store Manager.

Cornerstone Co-op is recruiting for a positive and enthusiastic manager to lead our Vermilion Gas Bar/C-Store Team in providing consistent positive customer experiences within a “You’re at Home Here” atmosphere.  As a brand ambassador, you will model living the brand everyday through our Mission Statement and our values of Teamwork, Commitment and Integrity. Hours:  6 am – 11 pm - 365 days per year.

Reporting to the Petroleum Division Manager, this position will:

  • Be responsible for communication, planning, organizing, implementation and execution within the Gas Bar/C-Store
  • Be responsible for providing leadership and direction to the Gas Bar/C-Store team in all areas of People, Financial, Market Growth, Sustainability, and Operational Excellence
  • Be motivated to growing our Gas Bar/C-Store business and committed to providing exceptional customer service
  • Ensure compliance to company policies and procedures, professional standards and applicable laws and regulations
  • Build and maintain relationships with internal & external customers and team members; while ensuring that the administrative requirements of the role are maintained on an ongoing basis
  • Ensure employee development and succession planning is a high priority
  • This position has significant physical demands on occasion, and at times is required to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Be safety aware and contribute positively to building and sustaining our No Fear safety culture


  • Experience in operation of a Gas Bar / C-Store within a competitive and complex environment is preferred
  • Experience within the Co-op Retailing System, or in a similar retail environment would be an asset
  • Experience supervising a large employee team
  • Demonstrated initiative and drive for results
  • Ability to handle multiple demands - adaptable, organized, efficient and committed
  • Computer skills are required – Outlook, Word, Excel
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. on an occasional basis
  • Available to work a variety of shifts – including days, evenings, weekends, and statutory holidays on a rotational basis.
