The Co-operative Retailing System (CRS) is a unique, multi-billion dollar organization based on the fundamental principles of co-operation. It is comprised of a network of approximately 181 autonomous retail co-operatives across Western Canada along with their branch operations, and Federated Co-operatives Limited (FCL). FCL is the wholesaling/manufacturing arm of the CRS, which provides the retail co-ops with a range of products and services. Evergreen Co-op in Rocky Mountain House invites applications for the position of Labour Relations Coordinator.

Labour Relations Coordinator

This position will be responsible to:

Provide advice and guidance to Evergreen Co-op leaders on HR issues to ensure best practices are consistently established and implemented, and aligned with business needs.

Engage with the Senior Management and the Corporate Compliance Manager to ensure consistency in approach at both retails.

Contribute to the development and implementation of projects and initiatives as a strategic stakeholder, including but not limited to employee relations, grievance and dispute resolution, conflict management, workplace investigations, corrective and disciplinary actions, employee engagement, mentoring and coaching, and interpreting and conveying labor law, employment standards, and human rights legislation.

Build positive working relationships and trusted partnerships with all staff by maintaining business acumen, using a professional and confidential approach, and by displaying a working knowledge of the business environment and leveraging that understanding when providing proactive and strategic advice and support.

Provide leadership, coaching, and development to department managers. This will be accomplished by providing direction, guidance and coaching on decision making; thinking strategically; sharing organizational and department goals, as well as the vision and mission of the retail

Give feedback informally on an ongoing basis and formally through the established talent management process.

Collaborate and work closely with the HR team that includes a Talent Management Coordinator, Corporate Compliance Manager, and the General Manager and Operations Manager to develop innovative, timely, and cost-effective best practice HR initiatives.

Quickly develop highly effective relationships across the HR department and work closely with the entire organization to deliver HR services that align with our business plan and professional best practices.

Garner support of all team members to build confidence, and allow all employees see the value of an HR department as a true business asset.

Fulfill any other duties as assigned.

The successful candidate will have a minimum of a Human Resources degree from an accredited educational institution, and a minimum of 8 years of progressive human resources experience, including at least 3 years of supervisory or management level experience, and had responsibility for critical decision making. CPHR designation, or working towards is considered an asset. Periodic travel, primarily day trips will be required on a weekly basis, a company vehicle is available for use, however applicant must meet insurance company’s eligibility, and if not must be able to use their own vehicle for work related travel.  Occasional overnight stays may be required for training and courses, and occurs within Alberta and Saskatchewan generally.

A combination of relevant education and experience may be considered.
