The Co-operative Retailing System (CRS) is a unique, multi-billion dollar organization based on the fundamental principles of co-operation. It is comprised of a network of approximately 196 autonomous retail co-operatives across Western Canada along with their branch operations, and Federated Co-operatives Limited (FCL). FCL is the wholesaling/manufacturing arm of the CRS, which provides the retail co-ops with a range of products and services. North Central Co-operative Association Limited invites applications for the position of Controller.

North Central Co-op is accepting applications for the position of Controller based out of the Administration Office in Stony Plain

The Controller is accountable for the accounting operations of the Co-operative, to include the production of periodic financial reports, maintenance of an adequate system of accounting records, and a comprehensive set of controls and budgets designed to mitigate risk, enhance the accuracy of the Co-operatives reported financial results and ensure that reported results comply with accepted reporting standards.

Primary Job Functions: 

  • Coordinate and direct the preparation of the capital budget 5 year forecasts and business plan.  Ensure all managers are trained in budget and business plan processes and meet established deadlines.  Prepare annual inventory taking schedule for all departments, ensuring all staff and Management are trained in proper procedures
  • Oversee all accounting and financial processes to ensure that they are carried out effectively and efficiently (operating statement, weekly sales report, AR statements, and general ledger). 
  • Continuous review of money and equity management.
  • Constant review of credit management policy and procedures. 
  • Ensure internal audit procedures and policies are being followed and all required documentation and paper trail support the audit trail.

Required Skills:

  • Must have minimum 5 years practical experience
  • Post-secondary degree in Accounting
  • CPA designation
  • Exceptional interpersonal and solid communication skills
  • Solid organizational and planning skills with the ability to meet deadlines
  • Good computer skills
