The Co-operative Retailing System (CRS) is a unique, multi-billion dollar organization based on the fundamental principles of co-operation. It is comprised of a network of approximately 195 autonomous retail co-operatives across Western Canada along with their branch operations, and Federated Co-operatives Limited (FCL). FCL is the wholesaling/manufacturing arm of the CRS, which provides the retail co-ops with a range of products and services. Wetaskiwin Co-operative Association Ltd. invites applications for the position of Health and Safety Co-ordinator.

Our retail commodities include Feed, Lumber, Hardware, Agro, Fertilizer, Bulk Petroleum, Food and Liquor. Reporting to the Human Resources Co-ordinator, this individual will oversee the effective development and implementation of the Occupational Health and Safety (OH&S) program. This role will coordinates all of our locations OH&S activities to ensure the success of the organizations safety program and goals.

The Primary functions will be:

  • Facilitate the coordination and implementation of preventative strategies such as policies, procedures, safe work practices and control of specific hazards
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of the OH&S programs to identify gaps and make recommendations for improvement and sustainability
  • Work closely with management to ensure all Health and Safety policies and procedures are adhered to as required by legislation
  • Guide the organisation to obtain COR certification
  • Assist with disability management and return to work programs


  • 2 to 4 years practical health and safety experience with a post-secondary certificate, diploma or degree in Occupational Health and Safety
  • Knowledge of health and safety in a retail environment would be an asset
  • Knowledge of Alberta’s Certificate of Recognition (COR) and possessing auditor qualifications and experience will be given preference
  • Solid interpersonal and communication, organizational and planning skills are required
  • Adaptable, organized, efficient and committed
  • Valid Class 5 drivers licence
