The Co-operative Retailing System (CRS) is a unique, multi-billion dollar organization based on the fundamental principles of co-operation. It is comprised of a network of approximately 170 autonomous retail co-operatives across Western Canada along with their branch operations, and Federated Co-operatives Limited (FCL). FCL is the wholesaling/manufacturing arm of the CRS, which provides the retail co-ops with a range of products and services.

With our central administrative office located in Swift Current, Saskatchewan, Pioneer Co-op employs approximately 600 employees at 19 communities in southwest Saskatchewan. Since its incorporation in 1936, Pioneer Co-op has grown to be a dynamic retail co-operative serving 23,000 active members with annual budgeted sales of $319 million. A large component of our operation is agribusiness, petroleum, food, home centres, liquor stores and family fashions. 

Pioneer Co-op Limited invites applications for the position of Chief Executive Officer (CEO).

Reporting to the Board of Directors, the Chief Executive Officer concentrates on the development of the corporate direction, goals, and tactical operational plans for engaging leaders and team members across the organization. The primary responsibilities of this role encompass, but are not limited to:

• Strategy – Collaborating with the Board of Directors to develop and communicate the long-term strategy of Pioneer Co-op to the senior leadership team.
• People – Leading, engaging, and developing Pioneer Co-op’s talent through effective leadership and optimal people practices. Developing, maintaining and encouraging positive and effective relationships with the Board of Directors, Senior Leadership Team and all other stakeholders.
• Market – Developing strategies to improve performance, growth, and innovation in the markets we serve.
• Operational Efficiency and Effectiveness – Mandating the development and implementation of best practices and policies that ensure the sustainment of the retail.
• Financial Stewardship – Assuming responsibility for the overall strength and financial health of Pioneer Co-op.
• Sustainability – Providing leadership to the retail in a way that supports long-term financial, social, and environmental responsibility.

Further to the above, the successful applicant will possess the following competencies:

Qualifications:
• Bachelor of Business Administration/Commerce or a combination of equitable education and/or experience in relation to education.
• 15+ years of experience with 10+ years focusing on leading large teams, people and projects in the retail industry including experience with sole responsibility for financial reporting.
• Knowledge, Skills, and Attributes: Multi-business line retail experience, Board experience, employee management, financial management, strategic planning, community involvement, and an excellent understanding of agribusiness.

The role requires travel across Pioneer Co-op’s trading area in addition to other scheduled meetings with Federated Co-operatives Limited - Regina Region and Federated Co-operatives Limited - Saskatoon Office teams.
