Human Resources Advisor (Nipawin, Retail)

The Co-operative Retailing System (CRS) is a unique, multi-billion dollar organization based on the fundamental principles of co-operation. It is comprised of a network of approximately 190 autonomous retail co-operatives across Western Canada along with their branch operations, and Federated Co-operatives Limited (FCL). FCL is the wholesaling/manufacturing arm of the CRS, which provides the retail co-ops with a range of products and services. Pineland Co-op invites applications for the position of Human Resources Advisor to join our team at our Administration Office located in Nipawin, Saskatchewan.

The Human Resources Advisor will be responsible for assisting the Human Resources Manager with the overall HR Function.  The Advisor will focus on enhancing the culture of the organization primarily through their role in recruitment and selection, performance management, health and safety, labour and employee relations, and the organizational learning functions.  The HR advisor is a business partner whose function is aligned with the overall retail goals and objectives. 

Reporting to the Human Resources Manager, responsibilities for this position include the following:

1. Exemplify and model our brand in all interactions
2. Provide expertise, advice and counsel to Co-op Team Leaders and Supervisors to help them excel in areas such as succession planning, talent acquisition & on-boarding, employee development, performance management and learning & development
3. Assume the lead role in the talent acquisition and onboarding functions of the Co-op including posting, advertising and sourcing qualified applicants for non-management positions, and management positions as assigned; creating and updating job profiles and descriptions, preparing onboarding materials, tracking probations and new employee onboarding and reporting
4. Research, prepare, and deliver a variety of HR and Safety training programs
5. Liaise with supervisors to prepare constructive corrective action documentation and ensure compliance with retail policy and processes
6. To be responsible for the bi-weekly payroll process, when assigned
7. Assist with Human Resources strategy and policy development
8. Assist with the implementation of Talent Management programs
9. Advise on and administer pension and benefits, leaves of absence, WCB and LTD claims
10. Collaborate with the HR & Asset Protection Manager to ensure HR programs meet the Safety requirements of the organization
11. Perform other duties as assigned


1. Undergraduate Degree or Diploma majoring in Human Resources; willingness to pursue the CPHR designation an asset
2. One to Three years’ experience in Human Resources as a generalist, or experience in a related field
3. Experience with HRIS, ATS and other HR systems; proficient in MS Office Suite
4. Ability to build and sustain relationships with team members and leaders
5. Highly effective project management, prioritization, multi-tasking and time management skills; high level of professionalism with judgement to handle sensitive situations with tact, diplomacy and high ethical standards
6. Excellent written and verbal communication skills; proven team player who is flexible and adaptable
7. Retail experience is preferred
8. Must have valid driver’s license and be willing to work evenings and weekends as dictated by HR events
