The Co-operative Retailing System (CRS) is a unique, multi-billion dollar organization based on the fundamental principles of co-operation. It is comprised of a network of approximately 250 autonomous retail co-operatives across Western Canada along with their branch operations, and Federated Co-operatives Limited (FCL). FCL is the wholesaling/manufacturing arm of the CRS, which provides the retail co-ops with a range of products and services. Beausejour Consumers Cooperative Limited invites applications for the position of Food Store Manager.

The Beausejour Consumers Cooperative is a unique, multi-million-dollar organization based on the fundamental principles of co-operation. It is comprised of 6 locations throughout Eastern Manitoba to serve our loyal members and guests. Beausejour Consumers’ Co-op is seeking a dynamic individual to join our Management team as Food Store Manager. This position will appeal to an individual who demonstrates strong leadership and customer service skills with a proven track record in the retail industry.

Reporting to the General Manager, the Food Manager demonstrates and leads the food store with day-to-day behaviours and actions that align with and strengthen the Co‑operative’s Guiding Statements. This multi-task position requires strong technical knowledge and experience in Food Store operations and marketing, high standards in merchandising and customer service, and the ability to organize and lead a team toward common goals. 

Responsibilities

  • Develop business strategies that support our retail goals and guiding statements.
  • Organize, direct and co-ordinate the operations of the store while achieving budgeted goals.
  • To direct the preparation of sales and promotional events.
  • Provides and encourages staff to provide member owners and the community long term sustainable value through service and excellence.  Ensures staff strive to reach “You’re at Home Here” level of customer service satisfaction.
  • To be responsible for security of buildings, cash, property and equipment, maintenance, etc., at the store.
  • Provide superior leadership through coaching, development, management of performance, and feedback to team members, so that team members are developed and provide exceptional customer service and technical advice to our guests.
  • Drive for continuous improvement in all aspects of the team and operations.
  • Ensure that company policies, best practices, training courses, and certifications are completed in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Lead a culture of safety through coaching, monitoring, and continuous improvement.
  • Communicate with key stakeholders both in the organization and community. 

The ideal candidate would have experience in a leadership role in a similar working environment.  Knowledge of commodity sales, gross margin and inventory management are required. Related experience in the Co-operative Retailing System would be considered an asset.

We are looking for an individual with strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills, as well as excellent organizational skills. The Food Manager is responsible for setting clear, attainable and measurable goals for direct reports, while providing solid coaching and feedback to ensure goals and targets are met.
