The Co-operative Retailing System (CRS) is a unique, multi-billion dollar organization based on the fundamental principles of co-operation. The Position:

Red River Co-op is actively recruiting for the position Health and Safety Supervisor.  The Health and Safety Supervisor is responsible for ensuring the safety of the employees inside our multiple workplaces and across multiple business lines. He or she will be driven to promote a culture of safety within our co-op. This position reports to the Human Resources Manager.

Some responsibilities include:

  • Being the lead resource in keeping our employees and assets safe;
  • Monitoring and updating safety programs and policies;
  • Developing initiatives to reduce workplace injuries;
  • Conducting workplace audits, inspections, and accident investigations;
  • Determining training needs and where appropriate providing safety training;
  • Developing and updating safety metrics, and proactively reacting to the data;
  • Creating return to work programs for our injured and ill employees;
  • Writing safety articles in our newsletters;
  • Developing and enforcing food safety standards in our food stores;
  • Working closely with WCB, and;
  • Administering WCB claims.

 

Position Requirements

The successful candidate must live the brand, making those around them feel at home. The ideal applicant will have a minimum of 2-3 years of experience in a Health and Safety role. You will have experience in developing and/or implementing safety programs compliant with OH&S standards.  You are proficient in a variety of computer applications, especially MS Word and Excel.  You will have excellent organizational, leadership, and interpersonal skills. You will be able to work independently as well as being able to work effectively in a team environment. You will have a passion for implementing standards that keep our employees safe for the sake of themselves their co-workers and their families. You must hold a valid driver’s license, and have a reliable vehicle. Some transportation to our various locations in and around the city of Winnipeg will be required.

CRSP designation will be an asset. A post-secondary education will also be considered an asset.
