Asset Protection Manager (Ucluelet, Retail)

The Co-operative Retailing System (CRS) is a unique, multi-billion dollar organization based on the fundamental principles of co-operation. It is comprised of a network of approximately 200 autonomous retail co-operatives across Western Canada along with their branch operations, and Federated Co-operatives Limited (FCL). FCL is the wholesaling/manufacturing arm of the CRS, which provides the retail co-ops with a range of products and services. Ucluelet Co-op invites applications for the position of Asset Protection Manager. Ucluelet Co-op is a dynamic Retail Co-operative with sales in excess of $18 million dollars. As the Asset Protection Manager with Ucluelet Co-op you will be responsible for preventing financial loss from theft and fraud. This role will ensure that all company policies, local, provincial and federal laws are adhered to in the execution of internal and external theft investigations or inquiries. You will work with department managers and all staff to ensure objectives are clearly communicated and executed.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES PILLARS
Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Operations:

  • Provide direction to ensure the Ucluelet Co-op has acquired the appropriate BC Security Licensing required to employ an Asset Protection Manager position.
  • Provide evidence at arbitration hearings and civil proceedings on team member investigations;
  • Provide leadership, coaching and direction to drive Asset Protection Excellence through comprehensive Asset Protection Initiatives;
  • Remain current with all federal and provincial legislation and regulations, and keep department managers informed of all changes and amendments in a timely fashion;
  • Insure the Ucluelet Co-op is in full compliance with all applicable legislation, and that it’s team members are informed and properly trained to abide by local laws relating to Asset Protection initiatives;
  • Ensure Asset Protection Administrative standards are met;
  • Work with Managers to ensure minimal store inventory shrink levels that are achieved;
  • Develop and maintain a comprehensive Asset Protection Manual containing current Co-op asset protection policies, procedures, standards, and check-lists;
  • Work closely and build rapport with local law enforcement;
  • Conduct periodic Asset Protection and Security audits on building security, internal controls, and support Co-op policies and procedures by ensuring compliance and implementing improvements. Advise senior management of any concerns;
  • Keep current on Asset Protection technology and implement strategies; and
  • Ensure all security equipment is in good repair (Alarm, CCTV, locks, etc.).
  • Respond appropriately to emergencies, incidents, and urgent issues as they arise.

People:

  • Identify courses, clinics, and seminars both inside and outside the CRS that would improve skills and knowledge of the Asset Protection Manager, and the Ucluelet Co-op team members.
  • Work with the Human Resources Department to provide Asset Protection training for all team members;
  • Educate all team members on Co-op expectations regarding team member safety relating to asset protection occurrences;
  • Consistently communicate with all team members to drive awareness of inventory shortage results, shortage concerns and strategy initiatives;

Finance/Sustainability:

  • Complete incident reports on, and conduct investigations for, internal and external fraud, theft, and other criminal offences;
  • Testify in criminal court as required, and provide support to team members who may also be required to testify;
  • Communicate and enforce policies and procedures to store population;
  • Identify operational deficiencies as they relate to Asset Protection and apply effective solutions to mitigate risks;
  • Ensure insurance claims are prepared with follow-up to completion; and
  • Ensure daily operational checks are completed and inefficiencies handled in a timely fashion.

Qualifications

  • Loss Prevention Designation (CPP, CFI, CFE, LPQ or LPC) and/or Commerce or Business Degree
  • Minimum 5+ years of Asset Protection and/or Risk Management experience, preferably in the retail industry
  • Must be bondable, First Aid Certification Level 2
  • Must have or be readily able to acquire the BC Security Services License
  • Knowledgeable of provincial and federal law
  • Strong aptitude and knowledge of retail security systems, information systems and productivity software
  • Valid Class 5 driver’s license as travel will be required
