Asset Protection Manager (Olds, Retail)

The Co-operative Retailing System (CRS) is a unique, multi-billion-dollar organization based on the fundamental principles of co-operation. We invite applications for the position of Asset Protection Manager based out of our retail location in Olds, Alberta.

Westview Co-op is a dynamic, growing, co-operative with budgeted sales in excess of $85 million with Food, Home & Building Supplies, Agro and Petroleum as primary products.  We serve the communities of Carstairs, Drumheller, Eagle Hill, Linden, Olds, and Sundre providing employment for approximately 200 Team Members. Operating in a diverse and highly competitive retail environment, the Asset Protection Manager is responsible for providing strategic direction to the organization to ensure safe, effective operations and processes which align with the objectives and Values of the organization.  This individual will oversee the Health and Safety portfolio of Westview Co-op, and work collaboratively with our Leadership Team to determine current and future capabilities required for effective execution of programs and objectives.

This position leads the direction of Talent Management for their respective Team Members in the areas of:

  • Leadership Development

In addition, would support Team Leaders in identifying courses, seminars and clinics both inside and outside of the CRS to develop Team Members.  Facilitate and oversee Asset Protection training as required for the Team.

Market:

This position requires a strategic focus in protecting the reputation of the Co-op Brand through the Organizations safety and security functions.  Identification of risks and minimizing loss through protection of our People, Property and Brand.  This individual would act as a liaison and Public Relations representative for the Co-op as required. 

Develop and implement measurable and successful Retail Asset Protection as well as Health and Safety strategies to take a proactive approach to improving the operations enhancing Guest experience and perception of the Co-op in the communities.

Operations:

The Asset Protection Manager is responsible for leading the direction of the overall safe, effective operations of the Organization. This individual will work with Team Leaders to identify areas for improvement and follow up on execution related to all areas of Asset Protection and Health & Safety, and will ensure facilities and equipment adhere to or exceed expectations in this area. Identify deficiencies and provide recommendations/action plans as required. Work closely with other departments (i.e. HR/Marketing) to achieve results and meet required expectations pertaining to the operations in these areas. 

Understanding, adherence to, and execution, as well as communication to Team Leaders and Team Members in the operation, of Westview Co-op’s Policies and Procedures in the respective area is required. This position would oversee or be directly involved in development, Best Practice and implementation of related policies and procedures to support the direction of the organization.  Communication of policies, inventory shortages or other related items would be completed as needed. 

Complete incident reports, as well as oversee and conduct investigations related to safety and/or asset protection as required.  This would include testifying in criminal courts or arbitrations as required, as well as coaching of Team Members required to testify as well.  Respond to any emergencies, incidents and urgent issues as they arise. 

Administrative duties including claims, invoices, and all other paperwork is done timely, accurately and meets agreed upon timelines.

Sustainability if most often defined as meeting the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet theirs.  There are three main pillars, economic, environmental and social.  These three pillars are informally referred to as people, planet and profits.  Aligning with these pillars our Asset Protection Manager would be responsible for:

People:  Involvement in community/work events and functions.  Protection of people whether Team Members or Guests by identifying, implementing and executing strategies that mitigate risk of injury, incident and ensure overall protection of our people, both internal and external.

Profit:  This position will actively seek to protect the business.  By implementing measurable and successful asset protection strategies would mitigate the loss of product to the business. Look for ways to responsibly reduce costs while ensuring a safe effective operation.

Planet:  Adhere to all environmental guidelines and safety practices as set out in the day to day operation as defined by Westview Co-op, our business partners and or legislation where applicable.  Look for and implement new ways to improve the operation in reducing the environmental impact of the operation.

This position is responsible for the overall Health and Safety of all Team Members.  Leadership by example in working safely, prompt coaching of unsafe behaviors as well as recognition for Team Members doing safety right. 

The ideal candidate would have a minimum of five to ten years of progressive, successful experience in Asset Protection and/or Risk Management, preferably in the retail industry.  Previous experience in investigations and a strong knowledge of security infrastructure would be beneficial. 

Post-secondary education in business or a related field would be an asset.  A valid Driver’s License is required for travel to a variety of retail locations in Central Alberta and some out of province travel.  Some examples of designations/certifications which would support the successful applicant would be a CRSP designation, Loss Prevention Designation, Alberta Investigators licence or a Wicklander-Zulawski Certification.
