The Co-operative Retailing System (CRS) is a unique, multi-billion dollar organization based on the fundamental principles of co-operation. It is comprised of a network of approximately 190 autonomous retail co-operatives across Western Canada along with their branch operations, and Federated Co-operatives Limited (FCL). FCL is the wholesaling/manufacturing arm of the CRS, which provides the retail co-ops with a range of products and services. Wetaskiwin Co-operative Association Ltd. invites applications for the position of Food Store Manager.

Wetaskiwin Co-op has been proudly serving our members since 1917! We are a very diverse organization.  Our retail commodities include Food, Lumber, Hardware, Agro, Fertilizer, Bulk Petroleum, Feed and Liquor.

Wetaskiwin Co-operative Association Ltd. invites applications for the position of Food Store Manager. Reporting to the General Manager, this individual will be responsible for approximately $10 million in annual sales, including: Grocery, Produce, Meat, Deli and Bakery Departments.

Wetaskiwin Co-op is looking for an individual with strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills. You will have excellent organization skills and the ability to set priorities while setting clear, attainable and measurable goals for direct reports. 

The primary responsibilities will be:

  • Build a high-performance team that delivers on budgeted targets by maximizing the operational efficiency.
  • Participate in the development and implementation of business plans that include growth targets and profitability, as well as develop and implement merchandising initiatives.
  • Communicate and consult with General Manager about daily operations, budget plans, sales, targets and other tasks.
  • Lead the Food Store teams in providing quality and fresh goods.
  • Ensure inventories are managed and protected in compliance with management standards and practices to maintain high levels of accuracy and minimal losses.
  • Provide superior leadership through coaching, development, management of performance, and feedback to team members.
  • Ensure company policies, best practices, training courses, and certifications are completed in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Lead a culture of safety through coaching, monitoring and continuous improvement.
  • All other duties as assigned.


  • 3-5 years of experience managing 7 or more team members.
  • Business degree, certificate or CRS Food Managers training and ADVANCE training will be an asset.
  • Knowledge of commodity sales, gross margin and inventory management are required.
  • Solid interpersonal and communication, organizational and planning skills are required
  • Adaptable, organized, efficient and committed
  • Valid Class 5 drivers licence
