The Co-operative Retailing System (CRS) is a unique, multi-billion dollar organization based on the fundamental principles of co-operation. It is comprised of a network of approximately 190 autonomous retail co-operatives across Western Canada along with their branch operations, and Federated Co-operatives Limited (FCL). FCL is the wholesaling/manufacturing arm of the CRS, which provides the retail co-ops with a range of products and services. Prairie North Co-op invites applications for the position of Agro Manager to join our team at our Melfort Home and Agro Centre located in Melfort, SK.

The Agro Manager will be a liaison and public relations representative for Prairie North Co-op within the communities we serve, by delivering a world-class customer service that is fast, friendly and efficient.
 
Reporting to the Home and Agro Centre Manager, the successful candidate will be responsible for all aspects of managing an $8 million Agro department including; sales, margin, expenses, inventory and budget at the Melfort location.  The Agro Manager must be results driven with a proven track record of team leadership, support and execution of CRS programs, extensive product knowledge in all facets of Agronomy.

Responsibilities for this position include the following but are not limited to:

  • The overall operation of the Agro Centre Site.
  • Sales, gross margin and other expense control.
  • Ordering and inventory control.
  • Department production and merchandising.
  • Competency reviews and development of work plans.

Qualifications:

  • Must have 3-4 years of management experience in Fertilizer, Seed, Chemicals and Equipment.
  • Strong agricultural background is an asset.
  • Financial literacy to create budgets, set margins and create work schedules.
  • A degree or certificate applicable to the position is an asset, however, not a requirement.
  • Applicants must be self-motivated and possess a positive, ambitious attitude, coupled with outstanding interpersonal skills and leadership ability. Applicants must also demonstrate good communication and organizational skills. A valid class 5 driver license is required.
  • Preference will be given to applicants with Agro experience in retail management within the Co-operative Retailing System.
