Human Resources Manager (Saskatoon, Retail)

The Co-operative Retailing System (CRS) is a unique, multi-billion dollar organization based on the fundamental principles of co-operation. It is comprised of a network of approximately 190 autonomous retail co-operatives across Western Canada along with their branch operations, and Federated Co-operatives Limited (FCL). FCL is the wholesaling/manufacturing arm of the CRS, which provides the retail co-ops with a range of products and services. Saskatoon Co-op invites applications for the position of HR Manager to join our team at our Administrative Building located in Saskatoon, SK.

Reporting to the Director, Human Resources, responsibilities for this position include the following:

The Human Resources Manager provides direction and coaching across the organization on human resources issues to ensure consistency of approach, adherence to applicable legislation and collective agreements, and alignment with business needs. The Manager oversees the collective bargaining process including participating in negotiations and collaborating with key stakeholders in the development and implementation of negotiation strategies that align with the business’s future direction and needs. The Manager is a key point of contact with union representatives, handling grievances and representing the Co-operative at employment/labour related hearings and tribunals. The Manager contributes to the development of organizational HR strategies, and leads and/or contributes to the development and implementation of various talent management initiatives. Leading a team of human resource professionals, the Manager is responsible for providing mentoring and guidance to ensure team member competency development and professional growth. 

• Undergraduate degree in Human Resources
• A minimum of 8 years of progressive human resources experience in a unionized environment
• Employment and labour law/labour relations experience representing the employer at employment/labour related hearings
• Proven leadership experience
• Ability to develop effective business partner relationships with leaders, employees, and union representatives
• Current working knowledge of legislation, labour and employment law, human rights legislation, and related areas
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• A CPHR designation is an asset
