Fertilizer Facility Manager (Saskatoon Co-op Fertilizer Site @ Hepburn, Retail)

The Co-operative Retailing System (CRS) is a unique, multi-billion dollar organization based on the fundamental principles of co-operation. It is comprised of a network of approximately 190 autonomous retail co-operatives across Western Canada along with their branch operations, and Federated Co-operatives Limited (FCL). FCL is the wholesaling/manufacturing arm of the CRS, which provides the retail co-ops with a range of products and services. Saskatoon Co-op invites applications for the position of Fertilizer Facility Manager at their Fertilizer Site at Hepburn.

Key Position Responsibilities:

  • Planning and co-ordination of all operational requirements of the facility with focus on customer service and sales.
  • Strategic inventory management to meet all customer service requirements to including purchasing, receiving, blending, and shipping of dry and liquid fertilizer from the plant or direct to farm.
  • Planning and overseeing staff recruitment, training, and scheduling to maximize plant efficiency and customer service levels at all times, especially through peak seasons and required after hour service.
  • Collaborating with the Agronomy Sales Team and Administrative staff to ensure all customer fertility plans are executed within budget guidelines and company credit policy to optimize fertilizer volumes, logistics, and customer opportunities
  • Facilitating the sale of all products & services offered by the Agro Centre by referring customers and sales leads to appropriate sales personnel  including follow up
  • Developing and maintaining strong working relationships with key transportation companies to meet logistical and customer service requirements. Continually monitor transportation options for efficiencies.
  • Supervising, leading, and directing the daily activities of in scope staff to maximize plant efficiency, customer service, safe work practices, and administration of company policies and union contract.
  • Providing information, assistance and service to customers in a manner which will promote the sale of merchandise.
  • Collaborating with Logistics, Crop Input teams and satellite sites to monitor deliveries of fertilizer to ensure all customer service expectations are met or exceeded.
  • Ensuring regulatory compliance including licenses, permits. health & safety, training,  audit requirements, emergency response and proactive maintenance to ensure daily operations are conducted safely and efficiently.
  • Managing sales, margins, and expenses as per budget.
  • Developing yearly capital and maintenance requirements.
  • Assisting the developing strategic marketing initiatives.

Position Requirements and Qualifications

Successful candidates must have extensive agriculture experience with extensive knowledge of physical plant management and fertilizer handling protocols.  Preference will be given to applicants who possess applicable post-secondary education.

Additional requirements include:

  • Strong organizational, interpersonal, communication, and negotiation skills with a demonstrated collaborative approach when working with Team Members, colleagues, farmers and business partners
  • Strong customer service-orientation, motivated, and capable of serving and assisting customers in a positive, courteous and efficient manner
  • Minimum of 2 years of  managerial/administrative experience.
